Carbon Zero

Introduction

One of our key objectives for 2009/10 is to become the first prison in the UK to receive a Carbon Neutral rating.

We are working together with Serco Sustainability Management Services in a unique partnership that sees us now ready and excited to begin work on implementing our 6 step strategy towards reaching our goal of Carbon Neutral status.

We have already gone some distance to making this goal a reality through assessing our current position and becoming acutely aware of the good practice we need to adopt in order to make ourselves a sustainable entity.

Clear and concise plans have been put together to show exactly what steps we need to take next to ensure that we reach our target and there is a real sense of momentum developing within our prison as both staff and prisoners buy into this initiative.

The environment belongs to us all and we at Lowdham Grange want to lead the way in showing the rest of the country that it is possible to be both highly effective as an prison and be Carbon Neutral at the same time.
