Training and Development Facilities

The Training and Development Facilities are situated a short walk away from the main prison in quiet surroundings. There are 3 classrooms with air conditioning and natural daylight, 2 syndicate rooms, a kitchen and shower facilities.

The Centre is responsible for training and development for all staff at Lowdham Grange and provides a professional learning environment. Our dedicated training team have the skills and knowledge to provide quality development and training to help staff fulfil their agreed potential. This includes:

  • Initial Training Course for Prisoner Custody Officers. This is a 9 week course which is divided between classroom based learning and shadowing of experienced officers, on the wings in the prison. The course aims to equip officers with the necessary knowledge, skills and values required in the role of a Prisoner Custody Officer.
  • Non Custodial Training Course
  • Management Development Programme. This is an opportunity for staff to excel who have competencies which if developed could allow them to operate at first line manager level. The programme includes development days with managers of all grades in order to develop managerial skills, and completion of the Chartered Management Institute Level 2 Diploma in Team Leading.
  • Serco Management Foundations Programme.
  • NVQ / Apprenticeship qualifications which are individually structured around the skills and knowledge requirements of job roles at HMP Lowdham Grange.
